Employers Utilizing High School Transcripts
as Part of the Hiring Process

The SCHOOL COUNTS! initiative encourages employers to request high school transcripts (academic and attendance records) as one set of past performance criterion when evaluating full-time and part-time job applicants who are in high school or who have completed high school or its equivalency within three years from the date of application for employment.

High School Responsibilities include:

Respond to the student/parent/employer request by providing appropriate attendance and academic records in a time sensitive manner. This includes the signing of the Transcript Release Form process (Note: Special accommodations may be needed for some schools during summer months and official holiday breaks.)
Keep an accurate log (the Saginaw County Business & Education Partnership will provide the log) of the number of requests made by students for employment purposes each year. The Saginaw County Business & Education Partnership will request a copy of this log on a quarterly basis.
Support the School Counts! marketing campaign by informing staff, students, and community visitors that your high school provides unofficial transcripts to students for employers to utilize in the hiring process.

The Saginaw County Business & Education Partnership will provide high schools with:

Window stickers
Student flyers & Posters of Flyers
Posters highlighting business participants (updated & provided monthly)

Marketing to Students may include, but are not limited to, vehicles such as:

Student forums/assemblies (students grades 9-12)
Counselor meetings
School newsletters

Marketing to Parents and the Community may include, but are not limited to, vehicles such as:

School newsletter
Posters in schools (Offices: Counselor, Central Office, Worker Permit, etc.)
Stickers in office windows (Offices: Counselor, Central Office, Worker Permit, etc.)
Provide data annually, so that the evaluation of this program can occur. (Assessment process being developed)
Provide the Saginaw County Business & Education Partnership with updated High School Transcript Contact person name if contacts change as needed.
